Accessibility
Everyone should be able to use this site, on any device, browser, or assistive tool. Here is the standard it is built to, how it was tested, and what is still open.
The standard
This site is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That is the target. Automated tools and a keyboard pass check it, and anything that falls short is named on this page.
What was done
- Body text is 16px and no text is smaller than 14px. Text meets the 4.5:1 contrast rule.
- Every page has a skip link, one main heading, and labels on every button and field.
- Every photo has a short description of what is in the frame. Photos that only decorate a link or a video slot are hidden from screen readers, so the link name stays short.
- The photo viewer works by keyboard: arrow keys move between photos, Escape closes it, and focus goes back to the photo you opened. While it is open, the page behind it is hidden from screen readers.
- The phone menu closes with Escape, with a tap outside it, or when focus leaves it.
- The contact form says which field needs fixing and moves focus to it.
- No accessibility widget or overlay. The site is built to work without one.
Known limits
- Highlight reel, coming soon. When it goes in, it will play on the home page on its own, muted, with no pause button on the page. That is a design choice, and it means the home page will not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.2.2 (Pause, Stop, Hide). The reel will carry no sound and nothing that is not also in the text. It will not play at all when your device asks for reduced motion, or when your browser has data saver on or a slow connection. You see a still photo instead.
- Video clips, coming soon. Any clip with speech will get checked captions. Clips with only music need none.
- A screen reader pass by a person (NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on iPhone) is still to do.
To stop motion on any site, turn on your device's reduced motion setting. iPhone and iPad: Settings, Accessibility, Motion, Reduce Motion. Android: Settings, Accessibility, then turn on Remove animations (on Samsung: Visibility enhancements, Reduce animations). Windows: Settings, Accessibility, Visual effects, Animation effects off. Mac: System Settings, Accessibility, Display, Reduce motion.
Test log
October 5, 2026. All 13 pages scanned with axe-core 4.13 against WCAG 2.2 A and AA at desktop (1280px) and phone (390px) widths: 0 failures. No sideways scrolling and no text under 14px at six widths from 1920px down to 360px. The photo viewer, phone menu, and contact form tested by keyboard in Chromium with an automated script: all checks passed, with 0 console errors. Tools: axe-core, Playwright, and the Back Rhodes Multimedia design audit.
